Why should this person or animal be a PetPartners Animaltarian of the Year?
The nonprofit organization, 4 Paws for Ability, featured in Episode 1 of “Dogs” on Netflix, goes above and beyond to help people with disabilities. Since 1998, 4 Paws has helped over 1,500 children, veterans, and adults receive task-trained service dogs to help mitigate disabilities and provide greater independence. Raising and training a service dog takes extraordinary care by a team of 4 Paws staff, veterinarians, and volunteers. 4 Paws deserves to win the PetPartners Animaltarian of the Year because 83 cents of every dollar donated goes to the care and training of the dogs. The dogs are fed a high-quality dog food and training treats, exercised regularly, vaccinated on schedule, given heartworm and flea/tick prevention monthly, and loved and cared for in volunteers’ homes most of their lives. Even when the dogs are in advanced training at 4 Paws, most go to local volunteer trainers’ homes where they spend their downtime.
If this person or animal was selected, what would they do with the $5,000?
4 Paws for Ability is raising money to build a purpose-built, state-of-the-art puppy house. The current puppy house is a former family home that is over 100 years old and two stories. The new plan will be one-floor and much safer and healthier for our puppies, staff, and volunteers.
