Why should this person or animal be a PetPartners Animaltarian of the Year?
Every year, over 800,000 cats are euthanized in the US. Operation Catnip-Raleigh is committed to reducing feral and stray cat populations through Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return, or TNVR. We have been spaying and neutering community cats in NC since 1997. Our efforts are paying off, and we are part of the solution that has led to a reduction in feline euthanasia rates in NC. Each year, community cat caretakers trap over 600 feral and stray cats and bring them to our clinics to be neutered and vaccinated. These cats are released back into their original habitats where they are cared for by colony managers. Euthanasia is an ineffective and inhumane method of stray population control. By cutting off the cycle of population growth instead, Operation Catnip-Raleigh is able to decrease shelter intake and feline euthanasia rates.
If this person or animal was selected, what would they do with the $5,000?
The Animaltarian of the Year prize would allow Operation Catnip-Raleigh to run monthly MASH-style clinics, spaying and neutering over 100 cats, and bringing us closer to our goal of ending feline euthanasia in North Carolina.
