Why should this person or animal be a PetPartners Animaltarian of the Year?

Jamie Lawrence is passionate about helping to reduce the overwhelming numbers of kittens born to feral or stray cats. She is tireless in trapping, and then transporting them to a clinic to be spayed or neutered. She has singlehandedly saved the lives of hundreds of cats and prevented the unwanted births of hundreds of kittens. She works with the caregivers and the public to educate them about the need for this service, and also is able to act on a political level, dealing with town boards and other entities that would stand in the way of this much needed service. She has been doing this for years with limited help. Allowing cats to breed unchecked results in heartache for the people who are left to deal with illnesses and deaths of the helpless kittens. Jamie is there to act on behalf of these animals and give people incentive to continue to do so.

If this person or animal was selected, what would they do with the $5,000?

Jamie would use the money to fund medical equipment and supplies for a mobile clinic that could be put to use in the car flung rural areas of our counties, where people are unable to deal with the burgeoning population of cats. Veterinarians would donate their time if a place were provided.
